Specialising in the production of quality young plants, Delamore was founded almost 50 years ago. At Delamore, we pride ourselves on offering a top-quality product and a high quality service to all of our customers.

Delamore operates from two sites adjacent to Wisbech St. Mary in Cambridgeshire. Our main site has 50 acres of land, and 15 acres of new glass. The glass is very efficiently laid out, with the latest in computer controls and equipment (including under-ground and above-ground heating, lighting, shades, sprinklers, and automatic ventilation) to provide optimal growing conditions.

We also have a Cash and Carry at our facility for our customers to come and chose their own plants as they wish.

Top Quality Young Plants

We have a team of 12 highly experienced growers with a total of 200 years experience in the industry. Our production staff are very experienced, and we have over 100 local full time staff with up to 500 years experience in the business

Even more important than all the degrees and diplomas, our team has the hands on, practical experience to make sure that the plants that we produce are grown to the highest possible standards to meet the unique requirements of our customers.

From the beginning of the process, with the selection of the plugs, we apply our years of experience to getting the right ones for you. We travel every year to meet with our cuttings suppliers, and ensure that the mother stock that provides our raw materials is fresh and of the highest standard.

Once the cuttings arrive at Wisbech St.Mary, we have dedicated cold store and sorting facilities to receive them, and then they are stuck and grown in the controlled environment of our greenhouses – with tender daily care provided round the clock. We will round off all of our plants as they reach their final stages to ensure that they are best suited for the prevailing weather, unlike many of the imported varieties which suffer often from being either grown too quickly or shipped in too soft a state for the British climate.

Any plants that we do buy in are also carefully selected with regular visits to our suppliers, and careful screening of the plants on arrival at Wisbech St.Mary. We will also grow these plants on as required with the same careful supervision as above.

With over 2,000 varieties of plants, we believe that we are able to satisfy our customers’ needs to an extraordinary extent, particularly taking into account the stock holding we carry throughout the season. The scale of what we do in this regard is unique to Delamore, and a key reason why many customers value so highly their long-term relationship with Delamore.

Innovation

We continually refine our range taking into account our customers’ views, and each year also introduce up to 200 new varieties into our range. These new varieties are trialled in our trial house at Wisbech St.Mary under the watchful eyes of our growers. Our final selection of new varieties for the coming season is made after much debate, also including the views of our customers, many of them who visit our trial house during the year (perhaps at one of our Open days) and share their views with us.

We are always open to new ideas, and very much appreciate it if any of our customers can make suggestions about new varieties to us.

An unrivalled stock holding of plants to meet our customers’ needs throughout the season

We believe that we are unique in the industry in this regard. We carry a large “last minute” stock for our customers to meet their needs when they place their orders late or even when changing circumstances means that they find themselves short of stock.

Of course, the only way to always be sure to have the stock is to order at the beginning of the season and have the stock delivered to order. However, with the best will in the world, this does not always work with changing customer demands, changing weather, etc. In these circumstances Delamore can most often help with supplies from out “last minute” stock, which we specifically lay down for this purpose. Our loyal customers understand the value of this, and over the years have built up solid relationships with us in the knowledge that by working in partnership we can help them meet their customer needs best.

A temperature controlled, rapid, delivery service

Whenever possible, we deliver to our customers with our own vans on a weekly basis to ensure that the quality of the plants when received by the customer is in prime condition. We know that what we deliver ourselves will have been properly cared for by our fulltime drivers, who have an unrivalled depth of experience in their field.

It may only be weeks later that a customer finds that a plant is not growing as expected – often due to poor shipment conditions, which cannot be detected at the point of receiving the young plants.

We also have other shipment methods for small orders (e.g. specially designed cartons), which although they put the plants more at risk are designed in a way to minimize this risk in so far as is possible. Please ask us more about this if you have any concerns.
