Impatiens Downey Mildew Advice! 2012
To get the best results from Impatiens and to offer your customers the best quality you must:
- Ensure good glasshouse hygiene, disinfecting well before production.
- Give plants the best feed regime and environmental conditions to build in the most natural resistance possible.
- Keep good air circulation at all times
- Water at times when foliage will dry off quickly
- Monitor crops very regularly for any signs of disease and dispose of any plants immediately any signs are seen
- Conduct an approved preventative spray programme diligently
- Grow in areas where Impatiens haven’t been grown in the past
- Do not re-use containers previously used for Impatiens for the same crop
If you are unsure, our advice is to move to other products that are resistant to Impatiens Downey Mildew. Our recommendation to replace Impatiens walleriana is to grow Sunpatiens as this is shown to be resistant to the disease.
To replace Musica we suggest Begonia non-stop page 69 or some of the new fully double Begonia on page 36 of our 2012 Young Plants catalogue.
